Amid the uncertainty, isolation, and suffering in our world, creating relief among the ruins is more important than ever. Over the past weeks as we've sheltered-in-place, tremendous inspiration and energy from my pregnancy led me to transform a small space in our home where we find peace, creativity, and hope on a daily basis.
It also unearthed a new collection of petite paintings highlighting the kingdom of Morocco where my husband and I traveled in 2013 before we became parents. I was 28 weeks pregnant then, and I am 28 weeks pregnant now. These 3x3 inch watercolor works capture the serenity and wonder I found there years ago on the vulnerable cusp of motherhood.
Oasis means "a green spot in the desert," but it can also refer to a peaceful area in our everyday life. Do you have a place like this where you live? All you need is a cozy seat, some light, your favorite scent, and a sight for tired eyes to rest.
Each piece is titled in French, a second language for many Moroccans whose official language is Arabic. I studied French through high school and college so it was my main mode of communication during our time in Morocco. Merci bien for taking the time to appreciate and support my mon oeuvre. I hope you’ll stay and linger through the pieces, finding moments of beauty and tranquility.
